Director of Programs

ORGANIZATION

Living Redemption Community Development Corporation (LRCDC) is an independent Harlem-based nonprofit, dba Living Redemption Youth Opportunity Hub (LRYOH), founded in 2019 to catalyze Central and West Harlem’s homegrown “Credible Messengers,” who are part of the larger Credible Messenger and Transformative Mentoring Movement. With a mission to Save Lives and Heal Communities One Relationship at a Time, LRCDC offers restorative transformation for Central and West Harlem’s most vulnerable populations by providing intensive Credible Messenger-led mentoring, community outreach, and a holistic model of programs and services, including wraparound support and advocacy.

POSITION

The Director of Programs is part of the LRCDC Executive Team and will oversee the Programs & Services operations of the organization, including meeting with the Executive Director to discuss best practices for program development and administration; organizational sustainability; making and informing decisions based on the organization’s financial stability; monitoring the program budget; program contract administration; and developing innovative plans and strategies for the organization’s Programs & Services offerings.  In addition, the Director of Programs will prepare quarterly reports for Board of Directors meetings, along with other reports as required, as well as periodically make presentations to the Board.  This is a tremendous opportunity for a leader that can balance self-direction and collaboration, who possesses strong program implementation and administration abilities with a human/social services background and the financial and relationship acumen to enhance the internal capacity of a successful and rapidly growing nonprofit. The Director of Programs will oversee a growing program portfolio that includes: (1) youth mentoring, youth education and job training; (2) GED and literacy; (3) workforce training; (4) entrepreneurship; and (5) human services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Overall Leadership, Strategic & Financial Planning

  • Execute the strategic vision, mission and program model of the organization in collaboration with the Executive Director and Executive Team
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission and to organizational sustainability for sustainable organizational future of services including working with the Executive Team; and preparing reports for, and periodically making presentations to the Board of Directors
  • Oversee and develop the organization’s growing portfolio of programs and services; strategize and develop new programming ideas
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field; evaluate program and service effectiveness and make recommendations to the Executive Team for sustainability; monitor for compliance
  • Work with the Executive Team to model a unified leadership perspective; engage ongoing work toward maintaining a results-oriented, learning organization culture to increase positive social impact
  • Develop and manage the annual program budget process for use with internal management and external parties
  • Oversee the programmatic provider subcontracting process in collaboration with the Director of Finance; liaise with subcontractors and assist the Executive Director in stewarding relationships with subcontractors
  • Assist in financial management through effective resource stewardship of the organization’s mix of funding sources; work with internal and external stakeholders to assess and support fund development
  • Implement an innovative Program Assessment Guide to assess youth, family and community needs and Program effectiveness; seek and pursue opportunities to increase Program impact;
  • Complete an annual Program Viability Review for the Executive Team and the Board of Directors. The Program Viability Review is to assure Living Redemption Program & Services resources remain in alignment and responsive (a) to its Mission, Master Plan and unique Credible Messenger and transformative mentoring model; (b) to the needs of participants and communities we serve; (c) to the needs of internal and external stakeholders; and (d) to remaining viable and cutting edge by implementing necessary improvements and changes when required
  • Raise the organization’s profile and maintain community presence in communications strategies to promote the mission through creative, innovative and cutting-edge technology and processes
  • Develop and implement a strategy to accommodate rapid growth and expansion, innovative member recruiting, monitor accountability processes

Strategic Management, Data Management & Reporting

  • Direct the development of organizational program strategy among the Programs and Services mix and overall portfolio
  • Oversee and manage the integrative service delivery of the multi-platform program structure across the organization’s diverse government, nonprofit and private sector funded programs, initiatives and individual grants
  • Develop and manage implementation of a unified comprehensive program reporting structure and data flows; collaborate with the Director of Operations to optimize the Salesforce reporting platform
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team to coordinate long- and short-term organizational goal setting processes, including retreats and meetings to establish and update organizational and programmatic goals and plans
  • Maintain the integrity and accuracy of program and grants accounting within the Programs & Services operations: oversee and review financial transactions and invoices and ensure the proper allocation of expenses to cost centers
  • Continually improve processes, efficiency and effectiveness of the program portfolio and service delivery administration
  • Establish annual program, departmental and team goals and objectives; track results against these goals and accountability protocols
  • Maintain a high level of fiscal responsibility
  • Produce timely and accurate programmatic reports for funders, the Board, management and staff, including contract, grant and budget variance reports

Program Oversight & Evaluation

  • Oversee coordination, integration, and delivery of all programs, contracts and related services, promoting collaborative relationships between program areas and ensuring that the expectations of funders, partners, constituents, clients, and other stakeholders are consistently met
  • Work with the Executive Team and Program Team to locate and obtain appropriate human resources for programs
  • Assist with responses for RFPs and grant proposals applications in partnership with LRCDC Fund Development Consultant and Executive Team; design, plan and coordinate staffing and activities necessary for development of model program designs for awards
  • Work closely with the Executive Team on programmatic budget and data operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management
  • Ensure excellence in the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of programs and services
  • Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform the programmatic and operational decision- making process. Use the existing Salesforce CRM platform to increase efficiency, transparency and collaborative efforts among teams
  • Determine staffing plans to achieve program goals and objectives and participate in hiring decisions for new Program Team members
  • Deepen existing and create new performance and outcome measures for outreach and recruitment, completion rates, employment, retention, college, training, enrollment, completion, and other measures that are core to the mission
  • Develop an assessment protocol to determine the feasibility and sustainability of programs as well as lead to more effective and efficient service delivery
  • Analyze and assess programs based on data collected and implement corrective measures if required

Team Management & Development

  • Directly supervise and develop the Program Team, Program volunteers and youth volunteers
  • Oversee and develop the Program Team: mentoring, guidance, supervision and professional development, working closely with team members to increase effectiveness mentoring, encouraging, and motivating participants
  • Create and support a high performing culture among the Program Team in alignment with organization core values; the 3Cs Framework for Leadership Development; develop a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff to work collaboratively toward vision and goal, by clearly communicating organization vision, implementing yearly staff development plans and mentoring
  • Deploy resources efficiently and effectively toward organizational goals, working with the Program Team to balance workload and effort, and provide regular feedback so that key staff can continuously improve their supervision and mentoring skills
  • Provide structure and support for project management. Provide oversight to the administrative coordinator functions to track effectiveness of client intake and referrals
  • Responsible for the oversight and development and monitoring of the annual program budgets
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements including having continuing dialogue and effective reporting with external agencies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master of Social Work required, with minimum 5+ years’ experience
  • Minimum of 8 years leadership experience in a nonprofit, government, or philanthropy, overseeing multiple programs or contracts preferably at an organization serving low-income youth or communities
  • 2-4 years of experience in social/human services administration or equivalent
  • Must have proven and strong leadership skills
  • Strong management, administrative, organizational, interpersonal, verbal communication, and writing and presentation skills are required
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent the organization externally across a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies
  • Working knowledge of grant management and the expectations of government and philanthropic funders
  • Experience in negotiating, drafting, and overseeing vendor contracts for services
  • Working knowledge of HR policies with good personnel practice for compliance
  • Experience working with Capital Projects, departmental design/reengineering
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-growing not-for-profit organization preferred
